3 MINUTE READ ON CHOICES, BOUNDARIES AND LOWERING YOUR EXPECTATIONS

Here is something to remind yourself, a quote that I loved and a question to ask yourself for this week…

Something to remind yourself…

I love Steve Harvey for always being so spot on with his words. Last week I heard him say something that I also always stress with friends and clients: “If you keep doing what you been doing, you’re to keep getting what you’ve been getting.  So if you had a place in your life and you’re not happy with, you have to change some things. But you have to make a conscious decision that you’re going to change and it’s not depended on anyone else. It doesn’t matter what your mama think, it don’t matter what your coworkers think, your siblings think, it don’t matter what your children think. It don’t matter. They have nothing to do with it. This decision is yours, and yours alone.”

I.

“What do I want? What do I think about this? How do I want to deal with this?” If you start asking yourself better questions more often, you will be amazed at how many good answers you have. Sure, if you want to know what the eighteenth decimal point of Pi is, it’s better to just ask google. But all those life questions, which are about you and your life? What do I want from my job? What do I want from that relationship? Or with that friendship? Do I need to do that? How do I deal with my health? That’s about you! In the end, you know best how to navigate your unique path. Moreover, you have to live with the consequences of your decisions, so it makes a lot of sense to have your own say and not wait for the approval of others.

II.

To change things, we need to tackle the heart of the matter. We must determine why we want to achieve something and make sure it’s in line with what we ourselves want, instead of the people around us. Make sure it’s a feasible goal as well. There’s a reason why tons of diets fail and gyms have more members than people who actually come to work out. Either we set our goals way too high, we come to the conclusion it’s not all that important after all, or we simply just don’t want to put in the effort. Deciding you want to lose a few pounds becomes a lot easier when you’re doing it purely for yourself and for your own health and vitality, without aiming for the impossible goal that you want to have a supermodel’s body. The only way to achieve lasting results is by starting small and with intrinsic motivation.

A quote that I loved…

Anything you lose when you stand up for yourself, protect your boundaries, and begin to grow was not meant to stay.

Steven Bartlett

A question to ask yourself…

‘Where do I set the bar too high and how would I help myself once I lower it?”

Have an amazing week!

Love,
Kelly
