Happy Life newsletter talking about distractions and more

3 MINUTE READ ON DISTRACTIONS, EMPATHY AND FINDING YOUR PURPOSE

Here is something to remind yourself, a quote that I loved and a question to ask yourself for this week…

Something to remind yourself…

I’ve said it myself many times before and just noticed this great video about it: “The biggest risk to your future isn’t your competition. It’s the distractions you insist on keeping in your life rather than doing the things you know you should be doing but aren’t. People delay doing things they don’t like for longer than it takes to do them.”

I.

Let’s be real: it’s easy to blame outside factors for our lack of progress, but often, the real issue is closer to home. Every time you let yourself get pulled into distractions, you’re choosing short-term comfort over long-term goals. Think about it: what would happen if you just tackled those tasks you keep putting off? There’s power in cutting out the noise and making your own focus your biggest asset.

II.

When it’s hard to get things done, one of the best strategies is to break the task into tiny, manageable steps. It’s not about tackling everything at once—it’s about lowering the barrier to getting started. For example, if you’re facing a big project, commit to just five minutes of work. Once you begin, you might find that the momentum builds and the task feels less overwhelming.

Another helpful tip is to set a specific, small goal for the session—something so achievable it feels almost too easy, like “I’ll write just one paragraph,” or “I’ll organize one folder.” The key is to get started, even if it’s only for a few minutes. Once you’ve taken that first step, the next one often feels easier, and you can keep building from there.

Remember to be kind to yourself. It’s normal to struggle, and sometimes pushing through in small bursts is more effective than forcing yourself to power through long stretches of work. Small wins build momentum, and before you know it, you’ll have made progress.

A quote that I loved…

Someone once said “you know you have a big heart when you feel bad for doing what’s best for you.” And I felt that.

A question to ask yourself…

If I knew I couldn’t fail, what would I choose to pursue right now? What little steps can take me there?

Have an amazing week!
